I had the great opportunity to spend my summer internship working for IDE-M, a non-governmental organization dedicated to provide solutions to fight poverty in rural areas. In the picture, you can observe the treadle pump placed in to some of the most economically challenged areas of the Golden land, and of the world.
My main objective during my work at IDE-M was to understand and evaluate the socio-economic impact of the operations of the organization by providing market access of rural farmers to the treadle pump. The results were quite impressive. An average family using this technology would increase their income from 150 USD per year to 300 USD per year. (a 100% increase!)
